Myca's Wish: "I wish for a Basketball hoop"

13-years-old Myca is living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Postural Orthostatic.

Canterbury teen Myca, loves everything about basketball - it’s his one true passion. His interest grew watching the professional-level NBA teams battle for the trophy each series. Myca’s favourite NBA team is the Golden State Warriors and their star player Stephen Curry his inspiration and hero. Close to home, Myca follows the NZ Breakers and plays in his school basketball team at St Bede’s College.

Myca’s medical condition, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Postural Orthostatic, has had him undergo a number of surgeries, and key to his rehabilitation is keeping fit - with plenty of basketball practice! A hoop at home would allow Myca to practice his basketball skills whenever he wants, and gives him time with his friends and family where they can share in his favourite activity.

Make-A-Wish NZ, with help from Hire-A-Hubby, installed a new Airtime Hoops 660, NBA professional-level, freestanding basketball hoop and backboard for Myca as a surprise – Myca was unaware of the hive of activity happening in his front yard during the day.

In the afternoon, the big reveal happened - Myca came out to his front yard and much to his surprise his wish had come true! To add to the surprise Matt Walsh, ex NBA player and now CEO of the NZ Breakers, was there to join in the fun and shoot hoops with Myca - trying out his new home basketball setup for the first time.
