Brennan Massey, 12, is a talented young power chair soccer player from Mangawhai. Brennan has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, plays powerchair soccer for the recently-formed Northland Powerchair Football Team and is hoping to play for the national team at FIFA World Cup level. To help this dream come true, Brennan wished for a ‘Strike Force’ power chair – the Ferrari of power chairs. Thanks to the generosity of Make-A-Wish’s donors and we were able to make Brennan’s wish come true at a surprise ‘wish reveal’ during a training session at ASB Stadium in Whangarei.
Friends, relatives, Make-A-Wish representatives, a TVNZ film crew and the Whangarei District Brass Band burst into the stadium via a roller grill entrance, accompanied by a tune from the brass band, multiple air horns as well as a 200 balloons descending from the roof. Brennan wasted no time in getting into his new super-charged powerchair and wowed the crowds with his dribbling and shooting skills. We wish Brennan all the best in his future powerchair soccer career!
