The Make-A-Wish NZ 'Walking for Wishes' team will walk the Great Wall of China during May 2019 to raise funds to grant life-changing wishes for the hundreds of New Zealand children battling critical illnesses.

Make-A-Wish NZ impacts around 200 wishes every year, but sadly this doesn’t cover all of the several hundred children who are diagnosed with critical illnesses annually. We urgently need more funds to reach the additional 200 children who are still waiting to have their wish fulfilled.

With every step our team takes on the Walking for Wishes: Great Wall of China 2019, they will be raising vital funds to help us reach these 200 children with critical illnesses who are patiently waiting to experience the transformational effect of having their one true wish fulfilled.

Pio Terei

We are truly grateful to have Pio Terei lead this exciting new adventure challenge.  As well as being a much-loved Kiwi entertainer, he has a very personal connection with Make-A-Wish through his son, Teina who had a wish in 2015 to meet his hero, actor and comedian, Will Ferrell.

"It's been just over two years since our boy, Teina, flew away - seems like yesterday. He lives in our hearts forever," says Pio.

"Make-A-Wish did something really special for him and our whanau. I often think about families going through this journey and my heart goes out to them all. I know this pain, it is always there.

If I can make a wish come true for some child and their loved ones I am 100% on board. Teina was 17 and the light in my whanau," says Pio.
